What is Go STEAM!?

The Short Version:

GO STEAM! provides creative and educational classes, camps, and more for toddlers, preschoolers, and school age children in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. We encourage teamwork, creativity, critical thinking, exploration, imagination, and inquiry while building, creating, tinkering, reading, learning, playing, experimenting, making, and more!

The Long Version:

When our oldest child was still a preschooler he tried five different sports classes (soccer, t-ball, wrestling, swimming, and basketball). While he enjoyed most of these activities they didn’t resonate as something he truly loved.

By the time he was 7 years old we were struggling to find classes and camps that offered something he could get excited about such as science, art, and math, building and creating, exploring and imagining. We found a few options but they were too far away or not quite what we needed. With our backgrounds in education, math, literature, and teaching children we decided to start our own business teaching other kids like our son who are seeking out something a little different. Something that can be just as exciting, collaborative, and creative as a sport or music class. And thus, GO STEAM! was born.

The Longer Version:

What is STEAM?
STEAM is an acronym for the subject areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. STEAM is a concept driven by meaningful learning in the “real world” with the notion that knowledge is interwoven and layered and not experienced in isolation. The knowledge, skills, experiences, competencies, and collaborative learning experienced through STEAM education, inquiry and project-based learning with a real world context helps build and develop successful young adult leaders. They are leaders who are critical thinkers that engage others, solve problems, and take responsibility for their own learning. They are “makers” who are fearlessly creative innovators, inventors, artists, educators, engineers, designers, and logical thinkers. STEAM careers are projected to skyrocket in the next 10 years and students with these types of critical thinking skills will be in high demand.

Our business follows the STEAM philosophy and is titled GO STEAM! – a play on the phrase “GO TEAM!” We encourage collaboration, communication, and creativity between teachers and students, thus our tagline “Powering Teamwork and Creativity.” Embedded within our STEAM curriculum is also a strong foundation of literacy. Books and other forms of literature are embedded within our curriculum and used in every class we offer.
